The Second Eliminations
As the 18 Squires stood arrayed before the King's Herald and the Scribe, a light drizzle began to fall from the darkened clouds above. Ignoring the rainfall, the Herald turned and spoke to the Scribe for a few short moments, before returning his gaze to the Squires before him.
"Evrard de Laurier, step forward!" Called out the Herald, and the named Squire did as he was asked, the same look of sadness and frustration set upon his face as those who had had their names called in the previous eliminations. The Herald waited for a moment, before calling out once more, "Gaston le Bear, step forward!". Again, the Squire stepped forward, his eyes diverted to the floor, a look of disappointment set upon his features.
"Evrard de Laurier and Gaston le Bear, both of you have shown great courage and skill in the battles you have fought. However, as I have said before, the path of a Knight is not easy, and if the path is travelled by those who are not ready, they may be led to a fate most foul. Therefore, return to your lords and continue to train, one day you will be ready to stand shoulder to shoulder with your comrades-at-arms. Until that day, however, you must return to your lords. Evrard de Laurier, Gaston le Bear, you are both hearby eliminated from this Tournament, your participation in the proceedings is over." With those words from the King's Herald, Evrard de Laurier and Gaston le Bear handed over their shields to the Marshalls, who hung the shields upon hooks next to those of Meaven of Greensleeves and Gerald de Brekenfess. The eliminated Squires were then led from the arena, and were soon followed by the other contestants.
With the light drizzle slowly turning into a heavier rain, all who were present in the pavilions slowly began to leave. The thoughts of the battles of the day fresh in their minds.
The battles were not over, for in one week's time, Round Four would commence...
