The Fifth Eliminations
The cheering and applauding from the spectators died down as the King's Herald raised one hand to silence them. After a few hushed words from the Scribe, the Herald turned towards the assembled warriors, ready to announce the name of the first Squire to be removed during the Fifth Eliminations.
"Chaliot deFray, step forward!" commanded the King's Herald. Chaliot had a mixed look of disappointment at being eliminated but also a look of pride, at having come so far into the Tournament. Stepping forward, Chaliot awaited the name of the other Squire who would be called during these Eliminations.
After a short, sharp cough to clear his throat, the Herald spoke once more, "Thomas, Squire to Baron Borsam, step forward!". With the same expression of disappointment mixed with pride, Thomas stepped forward to stand next to Chaliot deFray.
The crowd was filled with silence as the Herald spoke to the two Squires who stood before him, "Although you have both shown great skill and courage during your battles in the Trials of Steel Tournament, it has been decided that you are not yet ready to wear the mantle of a Knight. Continue to travel and train with you lords and comrades, for one day you may yet be ready to take up a lance in defense of Bretonnia. This day, however, it has been decided that your participation in the Tournament is over. Therefore, Chaliot deFray and Thomas, Squire to Baron Borsam, you are both hearby eliminated from the Tournament." Once more, the Marshalls took the shields from the removed Squires and placed the shields alongside those of their previously eliminated brothers-at-arms.
Only 10 Squires remained now, exactly half of how many had begun the Tournament. Still, Round Seven beckoned, and those who remained after that, would enter the true Trials. Those of Strength, Honour and Steel...
