a few words about the ather'lorell

Since the first days of settlement in Arborell Men have been intrigued by the following lines of script. Inscribed upon most structures and artifacts left by the ancient Trell, they have been a source of great interest and discussion. For almost a millenia scholars and treasure seekers have sought out the meaning of these four simple strands, but to no avail. Their words have eluded understanding, but all who see them feel the power of the secret they hold. It is a secret that has remained hidden from the knowledge of Men.
To the Hordim these lines are known as the Ather'Lorell, the "song of souls"; but they do not know why it is called this, nor what the lines may mean. They are sure however, that it is a poem of some type. For all it is a great mystery.

Apart from the enigma posed by these scripts they have also proven to hold great magical power. Indeed it was the last line of this text that unlocked the secrets of EarthMagic for the Dwarvendim of the Stone Kingdoms. Even though the meaning of these words remains unclear, their use as the key to EarthMagic has ensured that they remain the focus of scholars both Man and Hordim.
For the purposes of this first core gamebook in the Chronicles of Arborell series, the Ather'Lorell is mostly used as a decorative device. If however, you place your mouse over these individual lines of script as they appear in the text, you may find that some hold clues to the successful completion of your quest. All clues are given in the Elder Tongue of the Ancients and require translation if their meaning is to be uncovered. The First Book of Haer'al has been provided for this purpose. The provision of these clues to an adventurer who wishes to understand them is but a small application of the power these lines hold, a power which will become fully evident in the third book in this series, The Jotun War.
