STEEL AND MALICE
Sir Felipe spurred his steed forward, urging the five other Questing Knights riding behind
him to go faster with a quick hand signal, if they were to catch Bertrand The Betrayer, they
must make haste.
Bertrand the Betrayer was burning the town of Flurden, his minions capturing and slaying
with over-zealous glee. Sir Felipe and his companions had sworn to slay Bertrand, and bring
an end to the shame the ex-Knight brings to Bretonnia with each breath he takes.
MODELS NEEDED:
The Honourable Knights:
- 1 Bretonnian Paladin(w/ barded warhorse, heavy armour, lance, hand weapon, shield,
Questing Virtue. 94 pts), Sir Felipe
- 1 Bretonnian Paladin(w/ barded warhorse, heavy armour, great weapon,
Questing Virtue. 92 pts), Sir Grey
- 4 Bretonnian Questing Knights(w/ barded warhorses, heavy armour, lances, hand weapons,
shields, Questing Virtue. 116pts), Sir Don, Sir Gaston, Sir Erin and Sir Gilles
The Betrayer’s Forces:
- 1 Bretonnian Duke(w/ barded warhorse, heavy armour, lance, hand weapon, shield, No
Virtues(Not even Knight’s Virtue). 136 pts), Bertrand The Betrayer.
- 12 Brigands (Same stats as Bretonnian Man-At-Arms, but with shield, hand weapon and
light armour. 84pts.)
- 5 Brigand Bowmen (Same stats as Bretonnian Bowman. 40 pts)
The Board:
Use a 25" x 25" size board or mark the area out on a larger surface, place two to six
buildings in this area to represent a town.
Objectives:
The Honourable Knight’s goal is simple, slay Bertrand the Betrayer and either rout or slay his
minions. The goal of Bertrand and his minions is to pillage this town and shame Bretonnia
by defeating its Knights.
The Honourable Knights win if Bertrand is slain, and at least two Questing Knights or
Paladins are still on the board. Bertrand wins if Bertrand survives and four or more Questing
Knights or Paladins are slain or routed off the board.
If Bertrand dies but only two or less knights survive than the game is a draw.
The game lasts until Bertrand and all of the Brigands is slain or routed or until all of the
Knights are slain or routed.
Deployment:
The Honourable Knights are set up across the any table edge(Knight’s players choice),
Bertrand is placed in the centre and the rest of his men are placed within the town at least 1”
from each other due to the chaos of pillaging.
Who Goes First?
The Honourable Knights go first.
Special Rules:
Oath Of Vengeance: Nobody suffers from routing, as the Knights have made an oath and
Bertrand will not flee, as he is too confident. The Questing Knights will suffer from routing
though if both Paladins are slain, as will the Brigands if Bertrand is slain.
Smoke & Fire: As the knights have just walked in at the middle of a town-burning, the smoke
blocks sight, shooting range is reduced to half.
The Quest: The Knight’s wish to fulfill their oath is strong, if a Questing Knight or Paladin
can see Bertrand and is within charge range, then that knight must charge the Betrayer,
seeking to put an end to his evil life.
Honour: If a Knight charges Bertrand, he calls a challenge to the sinister warrior of darkness,
allowing Bertrand turn around and face him before the combat starts. This is because no
self-respecting knight would do a cheap shot from behind! This allows Bertrand to meet the
charging knight half-way in a counter charge if he so wishes, the knight and Bertrand clash at
the half-way point. Both count as charging(they use lances) but the knight who charged still goes first.
This rule does not allow Bertrand to leave a combat he is already in.
Using Alternate Forces:
Any race with Knights can do this scenario, imagine Empire Reiksguard Knights chasing
down a renegade Knight, or High Elf Silver Helms chasing after a Cold One Knight force.
Part Of A Larger Battle:
This scenario is good if a Bretonnian player is playing an Evil(Dark Elves, Orcs, Undead,
Chaos and other evil races) army. The effects this battle could have are:
- If the Honourable Knights win, then one Paladin(he does not count towards the maximum
number of heroes, armed with heavy armour, barded warhorse, hand weapon, lance and
shield) for no cost! He is drawn to your army by your knight’s valour.
- If Bertrand wins, then he runs rampant through Bretonnia, burning and pillaging as he goes,
the Honourable Knight player may now only have his General and Battle Standard Bearer in
the upcoming fight, because all the heroes are off stopping Bertrand.
