The History of Chateau Neville

Within these pages lays the entire history of Chateau Neville, from the start of the glorious Baron Gaston le Byron's rule to the present day. Also included is a map of the estate, which is situated between Skavenblight and the Loren Forest, and the Estate's surrounding countryside.

I have also been able to find some additional information about Baron Gaston's history, it is included henceforth:

Neville has been in the Byron family for generations. Baron Gaston has one Questing Knight son named Cordell le Byron, and twin mage doughters Amity and Elena. They counsul him on all things not miltary in nature. And the advisor to the Baron is another Grail Knight, and long friend of the Barons', his Armys Battle Standard Bearer is Sean de Chase.

Spring of Year 1

Dear Sire...

I greet you to Chateau Neville, milord Gaston le Byron. As you know, the Estate has long been in the Byron family, and for most of that time my own family has served yours as a long line of loyal Scribes.

I am Scribe Dennis de Curtis, and I shall be your scribe and advisor whilst you reign over Chateau Neville. I shall follow your commands, and see that your wishes are carried out within the Estate.

My duties in this, my first Scribe's Report, are three-fold. First, I must give you the details of the countryside surrounding our Estate, and also the lands within the Estate.

Second, I will report to you the current state of Neville. I shall also report the amount of Revenue and Food Stocks held within our stockpiles and treasury.

Finally, I shall report to you the matters of state that must be dealt with this first Season of your glorious rule.

Now, to report the surrounding countryside:

A main road runs through our Estate. It is called The High Road and crosses over the tributary of the River Brienne over two fords that bridge the slow-flowing river.

The High Road leads north-west to the dukedom of Quenelles, and from there the road loads into the heartland of Bretonnia. After going through Chateau Neville, The High Road turns south-west towards Carcassonne. Both Quenelles and Carcassonne are friendly Bretonnian realms, and only allies will come that way.

A short distance to the east lies Loren Forest. None return who travel into the forest of the Fey folk. Tales tell of a mystical race of Elves who live therein, and that they are friends and not foes. However, they apparently do not enjoy visitors, and few survive who enter Loren without being invited first by its inhabitants.

To the south lay The Vaults, a jagged range of mountains in which many Dwarven Holds are located. Across that barrier of rock lay Skavenblight, the home of the dreaded vermin who are the Skaven.

I shall now describe to you the lands located within the Estate. These lands await clearing and development into fine parts of our realm.

First, overlooking the pleasant tributary of the River Brienne is Chateau Neville. This fine two storey Chateau shall serve as your home during your reign as Lord of the Estate. I hope you find it to your liking.

East of the Chateau lay the Estate's village. Named Old Nevillton by its inhabitants, this houses some fifty or more people, all of whom are your subjects. Ten of those who live in Old Nevillton serve as a garrison of Men-At-Arms. Ill-trained and few in number, they are hardly much protection from any real threat that may appear. However, they are utterly loyal, and are willing to give their lives in protection of the Estate.

A short distance north-west of Old Nevillton is a small area of plains. This area is called The Parcel, and a small section of it is already cleared and ready for development as you see fit.

North of The Parcel lay two large sections of promising land. Called Amity Fields and Elena Downs in honour of your twin daughters, these areas are undeveloped and dotted with groves of trees and shrubs. However, should this land be cleared of such impediments, both areas would be perfect for development.

Now, to look at your holdings south of the Chateau. First, a stretch of fertile land along the shores of the tributary of the River Brienne called River's Edge looks very promising. However, the land is already thick with undergrowth and trees, and would need to be cleared before the fertile ground could be put to use.

Unfortunately, River's Edge is the hunting ground of a large number of River Trolls. Although they seem to be too stupid to leave their small patch of land, they do attempt to devour anything that enters their territory. These loathsome creatures will need to be exterminated before much construction could occur in the area.

Slightly south and east of the River's Edge, and close to the Loren Forest are two separate areas of flatland. The first area is called Loren Dells, and is a very promising area of land. Although, like most of the land, it is dotted with groves and shrubs that will need to be cleared, it would serve as a fine location for a Farm, town or whatever you have in mind for it.

South of Loren Dells is the second area of land close to the Loren Forest. Called Byron's View in honour of your noble family, this area of land is located atop a large hill that allows a pleasant view of a good deal of the Estate.

Now, far west across the tributary of the River Brienne, a small patch of very fertile flatlands called Cordell is located. Once called Brienne Meadows, this area has been re-named in honour of your noble son.

Within the land called Cordell is the Estate's Farmstead and Field. Here five of your loyal subjects will sow crops in Spring and harvest them in Summer. Cordell is a pleasant patch of land that overlooks The High Road as it travels to Carcassonne.

Finally, far north of Cordell is a patch of land called The Overlook. From this small hilly area, one can see the Chateau, the tributary of the River Brienne and the road coming in from Quenelles. Unfortunately, not many enjoy this fine view of the Estate, because a small settlement of Hill Goblins makes camp there. This base of operations for the greenskins is used to launch raids into Quenelles. Luckily, they have not yet launched raids on our lands, or harassed too many travellers.

It seems that the Hill Goblins spend most of their time involved in inner squabbles about leadership. I am thankful for this, as the tribe of Hill Goblins numbers almost one hundred members, and they could do serious damage to the Estate if they turned their attention on us.

That is the lay of the land, both in and surrounding the Estate. I hope my descriptions give you a good idea of the holdings of the Estate.

Now, before I move on to my final duty for this Season, I shall give you a report on our current wealth. A large sum of one hundred and four Revenue is within the Estate treasury. This large store of wealth awaits to be spent on projects that you see fit.

We have enough Food Stocks to feed the population for roughly a year or so.

Now, to turn your attention to the matters of state for this, your first Season as Lord of Chateau Neville:

The Lord's Tax for this Season is only 1 Revenue. Should this be paid, my grand liege?

The Season is Spring, and therefore we must plant this year's crops. We currently only have one Field to plant crops in. Do you wish us to plant crops, and if so, at what quality should they be sown?

The current level of Rationing is Full Rations, which is the norm for Bretonnian realms. However, this may be decreased to Half Rations to save food. This will cause unhappiness, however. The Rationing may also be increased to Double Rations, which will eat up our Food Stocks much quicker, but increase health and happiness within the realm.

The Tax Rate may also be increased or decreased as you see fit, my wise lord.

With the amount of Revenue that is currently stored within the treasury, we may also improve the Estate in many ways. If you wish it, new land can be cleared, ready for later development. We could also turn the current Free Land Square that we own into a more useful form, such as a Farmstead or Field. Finally, we could build one of the many smaller Upgrades (such as a Grain Silo) to improve the holdings we already have.

Training is also open to us. Do you wish any of the townspeople to be trained into Men-At-Arms?

Finally, if you wish any actions not mentioned above to be performed, please give the command and I shall see it done.

I welcome thee, milord Gaston, to your Estate. I pray to the Lady that your reign will be long and glorious.

Your loyal scribe,

Scribe Dennis de Curtis.

Lord's Response

Scribe Dennis,

It is good to see that your family still serves mine. Your father was a very good Scribe to my own father.

Now on to matters of state. Firstly I wish my lord taxes paid. We want to have a good standing in the Kings eyes.

As to my understanding we have a clear land square. That is to be made into a farm land. I want both of the farms to be planted with normal fields. Make sure that 5 new farmers are taken to their new land.

Also you may leave the rations, and the tax rate as they are. I see no need to change them.

I want one of the squares to the west of the shelters (#4) in Old Nevilltion to be cleared, and built into a market square. Have all the people help in seting this up, and when it is all done, make sure that it has only 35 workers in it. I know this is not the max, but i wish the other 5 elsewhere.

With the exrta 5 townfolk, train them into Men-at-Arms.

So, this season I have commanded 91 of my gold to be spent. 1 for Taxes, 20 in farms, 40 for the new square, 20 for the Market, and lastly 10 for new Men-at-Arms. Also I should not have any Townsfolk doing nothing.

I hope my orders are clear, and that you can follow them out. If you see anything wrong with the orders, please have my Advisor look at them, as I am unused to leading a relm.

Baron Gaston

Summer of Year 1

Dear Sire...

The Season has changed, the vibrant growth of Spring has been replaced by the stifling heat of Summer. The Farmers have worked long and hard in the fields, and the results gained have been good indeed.

I hope you find the Chateau to your liking. It is not the finest of structures, but I still hope it offers you comfort.

The people have embraced your rule with open arms, it seems that you are already very popular amongst the townspeople of the Estate. It is the hope of everybody within the Estate that your rule will be long, glorious and happy.

The Estate was swarming with activity this Season, milord. Those who were not involved with guarding the Estate's holdings, or planting the crops, were busy clearing land and helping construct the Market.

Now that the Market has been constructed, a good deal of the population either own stalls or shops, or work as employees of those who own stalls or shops. This workforce of Workers will bring a good deal of commerce to the realm. You should be proud of your work and the work of the peasantry, milord.

In additional good news, the population has grown by six members over past months, and the Marketplace is now at full capacity!

The five extra Men-At-Arms you ordered to be trained have now joined the garrison. Now numbering fifteen in total, the Men-At-Arms protecting the realm are no longer few, but still may not be enough to protect us in coming times.

More good news is that the Food Stocks harvested by the Farmers this year will be more than enough to feed the population in the coming Seasons. It will even be enough to plant new crops next year.

Fortunately, no ill tidings have befallen our grand realm this Season, so I would now like to turn your attention of this Season's Matters of State:

This Season's Lord's Taxes are 1 Revenue in total. Do you wish this to be paid?

We have harvested a good bounty of Food Stocks this Season, milord, and it is customary for Bretonnian realms to hold a Harvest Day Festival in thanks to the Lady for the Harvest. How much Revenue and Food Stocks do you wish to use on the celebrations?

Revenue spent on the Harvest Day Festival will be put towards hiring entertainers, purchasing or creating decorations and also to purchase offerings of tribute to the Lady. Food Stocks used on the Harvest Day Festival will be divided into halves. One half will be used in a great feast for all the subjects of the realm, and you, the Lord. The other half will be offered up as tribute to the Lady.

In addition, the Harvest Day Festival also features many competitions where your subjects will test their strengths and skills against each other. This makes it easier to select good Men-At-Arms to serve in the garrison. Therefore, training Men-At-Arms only costs 1 Revenue each this Season, instead of the normal 2.

You must also decide what to do with the large quantity of Food Stocks we now have. Do you wish to sell any off to the Royal Granary, or perhaps you wish to increase the Rationing?

Construction is also open to us, although our current treasury of Revenue does not allow for any major construction.

Finally, if you wish any actions other than those mentioned above to be performed, please give the order and I shall see your wishes done.

Your humble scribe,

Scribe Dennis.

Lord's Response

Ahhh, Dennis,

The beuitful summer months are apon us. It is a grand time to serve the Lady.

My Chateau is perfect for a Knight such as myself. I could not ask for more from the Lady. I am glad to hear that the people are open to my new rule, and hope the understand that I am fairly new at this position. I hope I do not betray their trust in me.

It was a necessity to set up the market, no village can opperate with out the shops for every day life, and now I am happy to hear it is fully functnal.

As for the Harvest Day Festival, I wish that 10 gold, and 100 food be used to make the best celebration we can. With the Festival more young men will be comming of age this year, and showing off their skill at arms. I want to take the opportunity to get a larger force to protect my lands. Hire 5 more Men-at-Arms from the population increase of next season.

I would like to see my Men-at-Arms as soon as possable to see the condition of their training, and equipment. I need to know that all my relm is protected with the best possible men.

With all the exrta food that we have, perpare a carvan to the Royal Granarys. When this is ready have 150 food be sold to the Royal Granary. Also, with this carvan send the King his Lord Taxes. We must not forget to do our dudy to the King. He needs all of our support.

Untill next season Dennis, carry out my orders to the best of your abilties.

Baron Gaston

Autumn of Year 1

Dear Sire...

Autumn has come, and the land has taken on the browns and greys of this time of the year. As the Estate prepares for the coming Winter, I have much to report.

I am glad that the Chateau is to your liking. As you will lead this Estate in coming years, it is common sense that you should be able to live in at least a small amount of comfort.

Now, I have good news to report:

The Harvest Day Festival was a splendid event indeed. The peasantry within the Estate have never before seen such a grand event, with entertainers, kegs of ale, storytellers and much more. Dancing and singing filled the realm that day.

After a long day of celebrations, the population sat down to enjoy a feast, prepared from the Food Stocks you generously provided for the day. None were left hungry, and many were drunk from too much ale once the feast was finished.

As the drunkard members of the Estate rested, the remaining people turned their attention to the giving of tribute to the Lady. A large plate, made from silver and adorned with many engravings, was offered along with a huge amount of Food Stocks. It was all carried upstream to a larger part of the River Brienne, and thrown in, as tribute.

It is our hope that the Lady of the Lake will be pleased with such offerings.

Five young men were chosen after the celebrations, and have since been trained into Men-At-Arms to serve your realm. The garrison now stands at twenty men, the average size for an Estate like ours.

Finally, before I bring the matters of state to your attention, I have one more piece of good news to report. A line of many caravans transporting the Food Stocks you ordered sold made their way out of the Estate, and safely to the Royal Granary. The 50 Revenue profits from that sale now sit in our treasury.

With that happy news reported, I now must show thee the matters of state that require your attention this Season:

The Lord's Tax for this Season is a quite large 7 Revenue. It is so high because of the Revenue gained from the sale of the Food Stocks. However, do you wish to pay it?

Do you wish to spend any of the large amount of Revenue we currently have stored in our treasury on construction? Even if we do not have enough wealth to clear land AND build upon it as well, we do have enough to construct one or two smaller Upgrades (such as Grain Silos).

We could also train some more Men-At-Arms, if that is your wish. After all, in these dangerous times, the more guards we have, the better.

We could also change the Tax Rate, or the level of Rationing, if you wish.

Finally, if you want any other actions to be performed within the Estate, please give the order and I shall see it done.

Your loyal scribe,

Scribe Dennis.

P.S. I have heard that a Jousting Tournament, called the "Tournament of Thierulf's Gauntlet" is about to be held in Lyonesse. Do you wish to compete in this competition, milord?

Lord's Response

Dear Dennis,

I have much to order, and very little time to do it as I am leaving for Lyonesse to compete in the Tournament this Autumn.

I am pleased to hear that the people are happy with the Festival, and the the glory of the Lady of the Lake was again recognized by the common folk.

Now on to matters of estate.

Firstly, let my Realm pay its Lord Tax of 7.

The most important things I am going to order this season before I leave is a few Upgrades. In the farmstead I want Grain Silos, and an Animal Barn constructed. The more food we have the better. In the market I want an Inn and a Trade Guild to be built. And that should be all I have money for this season.

The taxes and the rations are fine as of now. But we shall see after the winter.

Lastly, Dennis I need you to send a letter to Lyonesse of my intent to attend the Tournament, and let them know my name, and my coat of arms. I have of course completed the Quest and I am now a Grail Knight, so I have the Grail Vow, and I also have the Virtue of Knightly Temper. Also I will Aim for the Helm twice, and then once for the Shield in the frist round.

Winter of Year 1

Dear Sire...

The Winter has begun, and the weather drops to levels that are most uncomfortable. Even the cheery warmth of my fireplace cannot dispel the harsh cold completely.

However, enough of my lowly grumbling, I shall complete my duties by giving you my first Winter Report.

Firstly, I must congratulate you on your victory at the Tournament!!! It indeed proves that you are most blessed indeed by the Lady. To possess such an artefact as Duke Thierulf's Gauntlet! By the Lady!

Now, to my duties:

In the short weeks before Winter began, the peasantry worked hard to complete those structures you ordered be built. In all, many buildings were constructed.

At the Farmstead both an Animal Barn and Grain Silo (sadly there was not enough Revenue to build a second Grain Silo) were completed. The Animal Barn, even now, houses the livestock of the Farmers, and shall help feed the population in the coming months.

In the rest of the Estate, an Inn and Trade Guild were built. Unified under the banner of the Guild, the tradespeople of the Estate will now be able to turn a greater profit. You are wise indeed, milord.

"The Stars Sparkle" is the name of the new Inn. Run by an old grouch of a man, named Charles, it still is quite a nice place. Beer is available in great quantities and many rooms are open to those willing to pay.

I am happy to say that there is little other news. The newly built structures provide wealth and food to our Estate, the people grow happy and food is plentiful. These are happy times, milord, and I have no ill news to report.

However, I shall report to you the matters of state nonetheless:

First of all, the Lord's Tax for this Season is a modest 4 Revenue. Shall we pay it, milord, or save the Revenue for other ventures?

As the Winter has settled in, our options become more limited. Clearing land is not an option. However, we could still build more smaller Upgrades, if that is your wish and the budget allows.

Training is also an option, milord. Do you wish to add any more able young men to our garrison?

We could also change the Tax Rate or Rationing. Events seem to be going fairly well, however, and I personally see no need for either. Despite this, you are clearly wiser than I, and any changes you see needed must be so.

Finally, if you have any other commands, please give the order and I shall see it done.

Your humblest scribe,

Scribe Dennis de Curtis.

P.S. I sit in awe of your Honour and skill-at-arms. I feel blessed to have been, out of all the scribes in the lands, to be the scribe of the winner of the Gauntlet.

Lord's Response

As I write to you from the war in the north, I am hoping that this letter gets to you as fast as possable witht the pigeons. I wish to think that my people are enjoying the safty of my lands, that they so richly diserve, while this war rages on. And thank you for your complements on my win in the tournament, it is a great honor for all of us. Now onto business.

Frist thing that I ask is that the Loren Dells be renamed in honor of the wonderfull return of my darling wife. The new name that I think sounds good is Plans du Charlotte. What do you think?

Next is to pay my Taxes, all good Lords must. And I try to be a good Lord.

Lastly, I want to train a few more Men-at-Arms this winter. I want 3 of the best men taken to the training fields to train. But for not too long, as I do not need men to die of exposure. The rest of the time all the Men-at-Arms can be cleaning weapons and such. If the war here goes bad, they need to be ready for anything.

I wish to do nothing else for this month as I want to save gold to build up some new land for farming. But we shall see on how much gold we have next month.

Baron Gaston le Byron

Spring of Year 2

Dear Sire...

A new year dawns, milord. The cold of Winter has passed and the Spring's vibrant weather has begun. It is a time of much activity, milord, and I have much to report.

First of all, I must report a most troubling event. It seems that, even in noblest Bretonnia, the taint of Chaos has its agents.

Late in the night on the last day of Winter, the crescent moon peered lazily upon the Estate. We are safe, or so we thought. A coven of Chaos Cultist snuck into the Estate. They served the Lord of Change, and their goal was simple. Steal the Gauntlet you so honourably won in the Tournament.

I am glad that you took the Gauntlet with you, milord, as they could have easily stolen it if that was not the case. From all sides the horrible soul-slaves of Tzeentch attacked the Chateau (in which they believed it to be held). The Men-At-Arms who stood guard within your abode fought bravely, but were no match for the outnumbering force which battled them.

As you probably know, four guards stand guard every night in the Chateau. Three of them closed ranks and bought time for the last, who ran to alert the garrison of the attack. The three who remained were literally ripped to shreds, but the hasty return of the runner (with most of the garrison behind him) saved their souls from whatever the Chaos-worshippers had in mind.

The Chaos-worshippers may have been skilled and butchering outnumbered foes, but against the entire garrison they stood no chance. Those who stood their ground were slain, their unworthy blood staining the noble grounds of the Chateau.

I am happy (perhaps to much so, but I am not as honourable as thee, and am prone to wallow in the defeat of the foe) to report that all of the Tzeentchian fools who did not flee were all killed. Unfortunately many of the fine objects in your abode were damaged, but I shall do my best to have them prepared before your return.

However, in the fighting (including the three Men-At-Arms killed at first), six of your loyal warriors perished. May their souls rest in peace. I must admit that the carnage of war (even on such a small scale) is abhorrent to me, and I am glad that I am not accompanying you to an actual war.

I shudder to imagine the sights you have seen, milord.

In other, more pleasant news, the Loren Dells have been renamed as you asked. Plans du Charlotte is the new name, and it is a nice name indeed.

Besides those pieces of news, there is nothing much else to report, except that the 3 new Men-At-Arms you ordered to be trained now join the ranks of the Men-At-Arms.

To matters of state:

First of all, the Lord's Tax is once again 4 Revenue this Season.

Secondly, in perhaps the most important event of the year, it is time to plant the crops! How many of our two Fields do you want to sow with crops, and at what quality? You are wise indeed, milord, and I trust your judgement on this matter.

Do you wish to construct any buildings or clear any land? As the Winter has past, this now becomes an option.

Do you wish to train any more Men-At-Arms, milord? Despite training 3 last Season, we are still down 3 men from last Season, due to the cowardly attack by the Chaos scum.

Finally, if you wish anything else done, please give the order and I shall see it done.

I wish you well, milord, and it is my utmost wish that your return to the Estate victorious and in good health.

May the Lady Bless you.

Scribe Dennis de Curtis.

Lord's Response

Dennis,

I am pleased indeed to hear that my Men-at-Arms fought so valiantly. Give my deepest thanks to my men. I will try to reward them when i have the chance. The war goes good for me and my Knights, but we are way outnumbered, and have withdrawn into the city to help protect it as best we can.

I will make this quick, I know the time it takes to get to you, and I know you have only a short amount of time to do the things I order to be done.

First, pay my Lord Tax this season.

Second, I want both fields to be planted with Normal Fields.

This season I want 3 more Men-at-Arms trained to replace the ones lost.

Lastly, I want a pair of my best Hunters from my village to be sent up to the Overlook. They must be very good a tracking, and must be very stealthy. I want them to look at the goblins that camp up there and tell me what kinds of numbers they have up there, and what activties they are up too. With one incursion of my relm I am reluctant to leave them be for much longer.

I belive that not only is my relm out of food and money this season, I am out of time. These are my oders Dennis, carry them out with the promptness you have done in the past.

Baron Gaston le Byron

Summer of Year 2

Dear Sire...

The heat of Summer is quite stifling, milord. Despite this, the townsfolk have worked hard over the past months to make sure the Harvest is grand.

Yes, I have heard many stories of the Chaos Incursion. Is it true that the King of Bretonnia saved the Empire's Grand Theogonist? Is it true that the enemy is led by a Giant riding a three-headed Dragon? Oh, I have heard such stories from travellers. Once again, I envy your bravery milord, but not the position it puts you in.

The Chateau has been cleaned up, and as you ordered the garrison has been increased. No return attacks have occurred, so I am pleased to say that it may indeed have been a one time attack.

Now, to the scouts sent to the Overlook spied upon the happenings once every week. It seems that the spot is used as a base of operations for a small tribe of Hill Goblins, numbering about one hundred in total. They make raids on travellers along the road, but seem to not want to attack us.

The leader of the Hill Goblins, is a lanky Goblin who struts comically around wearing Empire-style trousers (the unfortunate puffy ones) and wears a rusty Knight's helm with the visor removed. He is equipt with a large club made of steel and uses it often on the "Grots", who are the most numerous of the tribe, and appear to be short even for Goblins.

The scouts summize that whilst the Hill Goblins are not an immediate threat, that their numbers will surely increase as time passes, and they may one day pose a serious threat. Unfortunately, they outnumber us five to one. We may need more troops if we are to throw them from our bountiful lands.

Goblins are known for their cowardice, however, and it should be noted that a surprise attack, even by our small garrison, could cause them to flee.

Finally, before I move on to the matters of state, I have disturbing crime to report. Mallobaude, a young man who only last year moved to the Estate, has shown his true colours.

In a frenzy of bloodshed, he Murdered a woman who worked at the local Inn. After renting a room and calling her into the room to clean it, he brutally attacked her with a large knife.

Her screams alerted the other Inn patrons, who quickly rushed to aid her and summon the Men-At-Arms. By the time they broke down the door (which Mallobaude had jammed behind the woman) they found Mallobaude standing over her corpse, covered in blood. He attacked them like a beast, and it was only a punishing blow to the back of the head with a chair which knocked him out.

Upon examining the corpse, the Men-At-Arms found that he had carved the symbols of Khorne into her flesh! The Men-At-Arms were unable to save her, and she died from her many wounds.

Mallobaude, who appears to have degenerated into a snarling beast who is kept chained to the wall in the Chateau cellar. He screams wicked words at any he sees. A truly terrible fate awaits him, for his soul is consigned to Chaos now, and the Lady's grace is beyond his reach forevermore.

He stands accused of Murder and Heresy, two crimes for which Death is the standard punishment. I advise you put him to death milord, for he is no longer worthy of inhabiting the land of Bretonnia.

Now, onto the matters of state:

The Lord's Tax is 5 Revenue, a humble amount indeed. Should we pay it?

The Harvest was grand indeed, and it seems to be more than enough to feed the population in the coming year. However, the time now comes to give thanks to the blessed Lady for Her wisdom and bounty. How much Revenue and Food Stocks should we expend in the Harvest Day Festival, milord.

I know it is hard to think of such things in times of war, but still, it must be decided.

Do you wish to train any new Men-At-Arms? If so, please give the order and I shall see it done.

Construction is also an option, if you wish it.

If you have any other orders, please give the command and I shall carry them out to the best of my abilities.

Your loyal scribe.

Lord's Response

Scribe Dennis,

Let me set your mind at ease with some truth about the war in the Empire. King Louen has indeed saved the Grand Theogonist. It was a mighty fight to see. Also for the fight for the "Stone Circle" (stone circle gaming league finals) I seen King Louen fight Archaon, himself and took him out of the battle on the charge. It was a grand sight to behold. As for a three-headed dragon, I have not seen that, nor do I wish too. The best news however is that we are holding the city for the time being, and it looks like most of us might live to fight for the Lady again.

Next, on too Mallobaude. What a hororific crime indeed. We are sure that it was Mallobaude that comited this deed? If you are totaly sure it was him put him in the gallows right away. And give my condolences to the family of the young woman.

The most important order I will give you this month is about the Hill Goblins. Just like in times of war I ride is my pesant bowmen, I want you to go to town and find the best archers and gather them up. Send them and my Men-at-Arms to the hill. Sence we are out numbered we shale try and scare most of them. Get all the men in positon for the attack and let the bowmen shot for as long as they can. Only when the goblins are too close to shot any more or the bowmen run out of arrows will the Men-at-Arms attack. And tell the men that I will give 2 gold crowns to the person that brings back the head of the Goblin leader. I wish them luck in this mission, and my the Lady shine on them.

I will now go to the matters of state. This will be short again as I only have few orders for this part. Again with the Lord's Tax send a caravan of 50 food to the Royal Granary. For the Harvest Day Festival, I wish that 5 gold, and 70 food be used to make the best celebration we can. And lastly train 2 more Men-at-Arms, as they are cheaper at this time of year. Also for now I want to raise to high taxes for a few seasons to generate some more wealth to start some more construction. Tell the people that it will go back down as soon as possable.

Good Luck Dennis,

Baron Gaston

Autumn of Year 2

Dear Sire...

It fills my heart with joy that the great King of Bretonnia himself fights to defend our allies. With noble warriors such as yourself and King Louen Leoncouer fighting by their sides, the Empire's chances of victory are great indeed.

As this Autumn begins, I send you my best wishes. Whilst I sit here safe and sound from harm, you honourably put your life in danger for people you know not. A noble Knight you are milord, for sure.

Now, onto my Scribe's Report.

As per your command, I looked into the crime the man named as Mallobaud committed. The wounds on the body were caused by a large hunting knife, similar to the one Mallobaud was found to be holding. The man also appears to be dangerously insane.

I long thought on whether he was guilty or not, as no-one actually confirms that he committed the crime, and is not under the effect of some foul spell or something similar. My deliberations were interrupted when Mallobaud began singing horrible chants to the Ruinous Powers night and day.

That confirmed his foul guilt in the matter and I decided to have him put to Death. If he committed the Murder, we shall never know for sure, but he committed repeated acts of Heresy whilst under guard, and hangs from the gallows for his crimes.

This Season has been a most eventful time, milord, as the battle against the Hill Goblins was quite a sight to behold. Inspired by your bravery, I decided to arm myself with a bow (I have had a small amount of training with the weapon since I used to hunt game when I was younger) and joined the other Peasant Bowmen on the Overlook. Around twenty of the townspeople were taken as Bowmen, although only half that number could be called skilled with the weapon.

The Men-At-Arms garrison and Peasant Bowmen (myself included) were in position on the Overlook, we began the attack. Moving into range, we let loose many volleys of arrows into the Hill Goblins ranks. Surprised by this, they allowed us three whole volleys before the confusion had ceased, and then they charged towards our position.

Although pride is not a virtue, I can proudly claim that two of the Hill Goblins fell before my arrows.

Now numbering only two thirds their original number, the Hill Goblins finally reached our ranks. The Men-At-Arms and Peasantry then drew their hand-to-hand weapons and did battle.

As you may know, Hill Goblins are slightly larger than their normal cousins, and the battle was not as easy as I would have hoped. One of the disgusting little creatures assaulted me with his club, and it took me the entire battle to wrestle him to the ground and slit his throat.

The battle did not look good, as the Goblins were not acting like the cowards they were. However, a Man-At-Arms butchered their "Boss" and took his head. The sight of their leader's corpse sent most of the cowards fleeing, many of whom were shot down as they fled.

It was only after the battle we realised the cost of the battle. Seven peasant Bowmen were killed, all of them good men who will be sorely missed. Far worse, ten of the Men-At-Arms were killed in the fighting.

The Goblins are no more, however, and those that survived will not return anytime soon. The Goblin's head adorns a pike on the Overlook now, and the skilled Man-At-Arms who claimed his miserable life has received his reward.

No other news occurred this Season, except that the townspeople have accepted the Tax increase without complaint. With the Goblins cleared out, they feel much safer.

To the matters of state, which I humbly bring before your wisdom:

The Lord's Tax for this Season is 6 Revenue.

The Harvest Day Festival was a fine affair. We purchased two entertainer's services and some colourful banners with the Revenue you supplied, and the Food Stocks made a grand feast for the peasantry. In addition, a good amount was also offered as tribute to the Lady, may Her blessing be upon us.

With only 12 Men-At-Arms in the garrison now, due to the losses we suffered in the battle at the Overlook, it may be wise to train more. Do you wish to do this and if so, how many?

Construction is an option open to us. We have a fair amount of Revenue to spend on it, if that is your wish.

If you wish for any other actions to be done, please give the order and I shall see your words put into deeds.

May your return be both victorious and glorious, as you deserve, milord.

Your scribe,

Scribe Dennis.

Lord's Response

I am proud that I have such men of valor in my relm. It is great news that you won the battle for the Overlook. The other great news is that the Empire is safe once again, with most of the war won, I am leaving for home soon. There is not much for the Knights of Bretonnia left to do. I am most pleased that you not only fought in the battle with the goblins you survived, and took some of the greenskins down. Have a grand cermony for the fallen warriors, and give thanks to the families that lost someone. Now that that Heretic is been punished for his crime, let us pray that nothing like that happens in our lands again, but with the powers of Chaos so strong, we must always be on the look out for actions like this. One last thing before we get on to business. The man that kill the goblin leader, I wish to know his name. He is to be promoted to Yeoman Warden, and made the leader of my garrison. Also with the fact that they won the task I gave them, have a banner made in the town for them to look after, you my use the remaining gold crown in my revenue to have this done. Now they are real soldiers.

For my orders this season. Please have my lord Taxes paid. And have 3 new Men-at-Arms trained we must rebuild my forces after that battle. Lastly, I want some land cleared in The Parcel, for when I have the gold I will make another farmstead. My people will not go hungry.

Hopfully, I will be returning to the estate shortly after you get this letter. I long for a nice hot meal next to a warm fire.

Baron Gaston

Winter of Year 2

Dear Sire...

The cold of Winter has settled across the lands. You have now returned to your lands, and I hope the food and wine I had prepared for your return was good. You will have to tell me and the other scribes of your adventures, so that they may be immortalised in song and story.

Before your return, a ceremony was held in remembrance of the fallen and celebration of victory. The banner which you ordered made was first unfurled at this event, and a great cheer arose from the garrison. It was here that Luc, the new Yeoman Warden, was given his position.

With new-found enthusiasm, the garrison proudly protect your domain. The patrols take turns carrying the banner with them, and it is becoming a common sight to see six or seven of them displaying it to travellers as they pass by the Overlook.

In other good news, a parcel of land has been cleared in the Parcel.

There is not much else to report this season, milord, except for a Minor Crime committed by one of your citizens. Two of the Bowmen who participated in the victory over the Goblins were having a vehement argument over who was the better bowman.

The unfortunate peasantry set up a wooden target, and began to shoot at it. After half a dozen shots from each (most of which were misses or poor hits), it was quite clear that there would be no end to the squabble. Leon, one of the two, became quite irate at this, and proceeded to beat his opponent over the head with his bow.

Thankfully, a small group of the town children had gathered nearby to watch the archery contest, and they ran to the guards when Leon's attack began. By the time the Men-At-Arms arrived, Leon had given a severe, but not life-threatening, beating to his opponent.

He now is being held for Assault. What shall his punishment be, milord? He has besmirched the honour of himself and his comrades with this low act. It annoys me greatly, as Leon was directly to my left during the battle, and I thought he was a good man.

Nevermind... In any case, I shall now report the Matters of State of this Season to you:

The Lord's Tax for this most cold of Seasons is a modest 4 Revenue.

Although the Winter weather forbids any real construction, we may still build some minor Upgrades if it your wish. Do you wish to build any smaller Upgrades, milord?

Training is also an option. Although stronger now, our forces are still depleted from the battle against the Goblins.

If you wish any other actions to be performed, please give the order and I shall see it done.

Your hard working scribe,

Scribe Dennis.

Lord's Response

Dear Dennis,

It is great to home Dennis, and the food and wine were great. I thank you for it. It is nice to be in my estate next to a warm fire after such a long campign. I have dreamed of this many a night while in the north. As for telling of my advernures, we will have a grand feast this winter where I can meet all the new towns people and tell all of the war in the north.

The Inn in the market was built just as I was leaving, and I want to know does our relm attract many people from other relms? And what do others think of my fair lands? It must have been a grand ceremony where you gave the banner to the garrison, and laid the fallen to rest. I wish I could have been there.

Now on too matters of state. I want the Lord tax paid as soon as it can be. i want to save the rest of my gold for land next season. Now on to the crime of Leon. I want all to see when I give out his punishment. I will be in the market and standing on the gallows. I want all to know that crime will not be tolerated. As for which punishment to give, Leon will be put on extra labour. And he will have to give a fromal apology.

That are all my orders for this season, carry them out as you always do.

Baron Gaston

Spring of Year 3

Dear Sire...

As the third year of your reign begins, the vibrant colours and warmth of Spring fill the air. I look to this new year with much hope, for you will no doubt lead us into an era of honour and glory.

I must say that the grand feast was indeed an enjoyable event. Held in the final days of Winter, as you well know, it was a grand time to share stories. I have put to paper all the tales you told, and am working towards putting them into song, although I have no talent in that field of writing.

The population growth at this time is slow, but steady. It seems the death and birth rates are almost equal, with the birth rate slightly higher than the death rate. Most of the new faces of the town come from surrounding realms, however, as the Estate is what most Bretonnian Peasants dream of. A safe place to bring up one's offspring with a kind and just, but mighty nonetheless, Lord to look over them.

People's opinions of you are quite good, milord. The only common complaint is that Taxes are too high, but that is to be expected, as all Peasants think their Taxes are too high. However, despite this small complaint, they do see the Revenue generated by the Tax Rate being put to good use, and are content to stay how things are at this time.

I took the liberty of asking people what they would like to see improved in the Estate whilst you were gone. It seems that some are concerned by the low numbers of Men-At-Arms (fifteen, in total, I believe) whilst others expressed a desire to see a Grail Chapel constructed.

Now, as for Leon, he has accepted his punishment. The formal apology was made, and he cleaned the Market streets of the litter than had piled up as his Labour. All in all, his debt has been paid and I hope that he has learned his lesson.

I now bring thee the matters of state:

The Lord's Tax is 5 Revenue this fine Season, milord. Shall we pay it?

The Spring is now upon us, and the time to sow the crops for next Season's Harvest is upon us. How many Fields do you wish to plant, milord, and at what quality?

With the Winter weather now gone, we can also return to construction. Do you wish to build anything or clear any land, milord?

We are also faced with the option of changing the Tax Rate, training more Men-At-Arms or any other action you wish.

Until next Season, milord.

Your loyal and faithful scribe,

Scribe Dennis.

Lord's Response

Dear Dennis,

A new year brings with it new plans for the land. I have much to do and not as much time to do it in. But I want to thank you and all that helped in the feast. I loved every minute of it. Also I am glad to hear that my people are happy, and safe.

I am pleased to hear that Leon has paid his debt, and has made no fuss about it. Aslo I am surely blessed by the Lady to have a Scribe as good as you. You have tended to my every need, and also gone far above your normal call to make sure that I am informed of all things in my relm. As a token of my gratitude I am having you moved to more spacious rooms. I know this is more then a normal pesant normaly recives, but I feel that you are a part of my family now. And I wish all to know that serving me in good faith does not go thankless.

As I was on a hunt for wild boar this season, my tracking took me down to the river. And two thoughts came to my mind. The topmost was about the trolls that live down stream. From now on I want my men-at-arms to take a look down there, during thier patrols, and give me a report every season. I expect that Yeoman Luc can handle this task. My second though on the river was, is it wide enough for trade ships? Is there a way we can build ships to help our economy? If so I want to to find out for me. Along with that, I want to send people out to let me know what the neighboring towns and villages are around here.

Next season you should come on a hunt with me, it does good to clear ones mind, and get some exersize away from the training field once and awhile. I am sure you will enjoy the time in the wilderness.

Now on to buesness:

I want my Taxes paid as always. From now on, I want them always to be paid with out asking me. Just let me know the amount. If dire times do come, and I wish not to pay them, I will let you know to with hold the gold. But for now as a standard you do not need to ask.

For my plan I wish to make a new set of farms, to give more food to the towns folk, but as you know I do not have the renenue to do such an undertaking, so for now in that new land square I wish a farmstead to be built. It does not need farmers just yet, as no farms are built for it, but I need to take it one step at a time.

Next, I want both fields to be planted as normal fields. Hopfully by next year, we will have two more fields to be sowing.

Lastly I wish three new Men-at-Arms to be trained. Witch will bring our number up to almost a good number again. I will be saving the last of the gold to clear more land in the comming seasons. I just hope we have enough.

Baron Gaston

Summer of Year 3

Dear Sire...

I thank thee, milord. My new quarters are most spacious indeed, and I feel like the King of Bretonnia himself when I come home after a hard days work. Your kindness is without bonds, milord, for my humble services to earn such a great reward. It has been a pleasure to serve as your eyes and ears in the Estate, milord, and I shall endevour to continue to please you with my reports.

Now, onto my report for this Summer!

I have grim news to report, milord. The first patrol to spy on the trolls came upon an event that does not bode well. The River Trolls have increased in number, and appear to be forming into a primitive tribe of some eight to ten individuals.

The lumbering brutes are far more dangerous that the Hill Goblins, milord. Although small in number, these beasts are great in strength, each one the match for any man. Even more disturbingly, signs found by the Men-At-Arms point towards a lack of food in the area. It appears as if the Trolls have killed all the animals in the area to sustain themselves. I suspect the boar you followed into that area was quickly preyed upon by the brutal beasts.

I fear that, with their food supply exhausted by their fearsome hunger, they will soon be driven to look for food outside of the River's Edge. Driven by hunger, they may choose to attack us! I have not yet informed the people in Old Nevillton of this, for the fear that would bring would case panic. However, all the Men-At-Arms have been informed to keep a look out for any movement from the River's Edge area.

The matter of the Trolls has interrupted my studies on the depth and width of the river. I shall look into it further this Season, and shall have a full report on the possiblity of trade ships being used in my next report.

I will take you up on the offer to join you in the hunt, milord, as long as we stay clear of the Troll territory, for we can only hunt Troll-kind there, and I fear them greatly.

Now, onto other matters.

The Farmers have worked long and hard to make sure that this was a fine Harvest. I am confident that the food gained will be enough to feed the population in the coming months.

With the news of the Season reported, I now bring you the matters of state:

As ordered, the Lord's Tax of 6 Revenue has already been paid.

With the completion of the Harvest, the time has now come to give thanks to the Lady for Her bounty. How much of the realm's Food Stocks and Revenue should be expended on the Harvest Day Festival, milord?

In addition, we could hold some competitions to gather the strongest men of the Estate to join the garrison. With the growing threat of the River Trolls, we may need more men than the 18 we currently have. Do you wish to train more Men-At-Arms, milord?

If there is enough Revenue after the Festival, it is also an option to clear land for construction at a latter date. Do you wish to clear any land? Or perhaps smaller Upgrades are more appropriate options for construction at this time?

If you have any other orders, please send them as well and I will ensure that they are put into action.

Your humble (but now very comfortable) scribe,

Scribe Dennis de Curtis.

Lord's Response

Dennis,

I am happy that you find your new rooms to be pleasureable. It is just a small token of my gratitude for your services. They are most definitely deserve. With your hard work, and your long hours at study, you have made my job as lord of this relm much easyer.

Now onto the trolls. I know that thies monsters are much tougher then the goblins, but i wish for you to have the Men-at-Arms to keep an eye on them. The last thing I want is to be attacked by then when we are not expecting them. But as too the food problem of theirs. Do I try and give them more food, and help the demon spawn to survive? Or do I try and destroy them? This is something I must deliberate over for a while. Hopfully the answer will come to me in time.

Please have that report about the river to me as soon as possable. If our town can grow from it then maybe I can have the revenue I need to finish some of my plans.

I will no go to the matters of state. First I want 5 gold and 80 food set aside for the Festival, and hope that shit year is better than the years before. Also I want food stocks in the amount of 100 to be sent to the Royal Granary.

I also want the last piece of land in the Parcel to be cleared this month. This will be one of the new fields for next year. I hope that I will have enough for one more.

And lastly I do indeed want more Men-at-Arms to be trained. I know that its the best time to get more men for the garrison, so I want all remaining revenue to be spent on new Men-at-Arms. I think that will be 4 more this season. With that puting me out of revenue I shall leave the work to be done, in your capible hands.

May the Lady bless all of us, Baron Gaston le Byron

Autumn of Year 3

Dear Sire...

A new Autumn begins, and I have much to report. My new quarters make my job all the easier, and I hope my reports are worthy of such a grand reward.

I have studied the River Brienne and have found answers for your questions milord. Unfortunately, the river is not particularly wide, and most trade ships would have trouble navigating it at its narrower areas. More troubling is the fact that the two fords across the River (one at the northern area of your Estate, one at the southern area) make it dangerously shallow, and only a skiff could pass over that shallow waters.

So my report must come to an unfortunate conclusion that the waters are not deep or wide enough to support trade vessels, although I am happy to report that we could begin trading up and down river with smaller Skiffs if you wish. This would not bring in a great amount of Revenue, but will still aid the Estate anyway.

Do you wish to set up a trade route at the cost of 15 Revenue for the skiffs? It will return 1d6 Revenue per Season.

Now, I have a dark event to report. Late during last month, the River Trolls, driven by hunger, went searching outside of the River's Edge for food. Unfortunately, the stinking beasts made their way up to Old Nevilleton, and were spotted by the Men-At-Arms as they began to search the outskirts of the town for littered scraps of food.

Nine River Trolls all at once! Extremely alarmed, the Men-At-Arms gathered with a the best bowmen (armed with flaming arrows) to attempt to chase the beasts off. The first volley of arrows put one of the foul beasts to flaming death, but this greatly angered the others, who took up stones and huge clubs and charged at the brave Bretonnians.

A second volley of arrows was fired before the bowmen took flight in terror, and thankfully the arrows did away with a second Troll. The odds were against the brave Men-At-Arms, however, as seven Trolls are an powerful group, more than a match for twenty or so Men-At-Arms.

Nevertheless, the Men-At-Arms stood their ground, for a time. As the cries of battle echoed in the air, the heroic might of Bretonnia saw many of the great beasts fall. However, their unnatural ability to regenerate saw all but two of the fearsome beasts return to their feet, and the horrible strikes of the counter-attack saw many lives scattered to the winds.

Sadly, the Men-At-Arms took to flight at that time, and I was there to see it, having been drawn by the sounds of shouting that echoed across the Estate. The Trolls, too stupid to give chase, were disgustingly feeding on the dead and dying warriors.

I let out a yelp of fear at this sight, and this drew the attention of all five remaining Trolls! I shamefully admit I turned and ran like a coward at this, but by the grace of the Lady they gave chase.

Although I cannot honestly claim that it was my intention, I managed to out-run the stupid swamp-dwellers and led them far enough away from the village that they were unable to remember where they were, so became lost. I believe they wandered aimlessly until they returned to their usual dwelling within the River's Edge.

The Men-At-Arms are in deep regret of their shameful retreat, and promise to not repeat the deed, should the remaining beasts launch an attack. Ten of their number perished on the day, and they want revenge for the shame and bloodshed of the event.

I fear that, having found a new source of food in the village, the Trolls will one day soon decide to return for another attack. What should be done?

Finally, there was not enough Revenue last Season to clear land in the Parcel, due to Lord's Taxes and the fact that it takes a Season for Food Stock sale profits to return to the Estate.

Now, on to the matters of state:

I have seen to it that the Lord's Tax of 6 Revenue has been paid.

Do you wish to clear the land in the Parcel this Season? Or perhaps you wish to build an Upgrade of some sort?

Training would seem like a good idea at this time, as the River Trolls are an ever-present threat now. Do you wish to train any more Men-At-Arms.

If you wish any other actions to be done, please give the order.

Your loyal scribe,

Scribe Dennis.

Lord's Response

Dennis,

A most desterbing season indeed. Let me get right to the matters at hand. The skiffs will have to wait for next year. But thank you for the research. It will help the relm later on. But we do not have the revenue for it now.

Now for the river trolls, we do not have enought men to do anything now. I am most infuriated about the attack, but I am afraid that we will have to accept defeat for the time being. My honor demands revenge, but I will do no good to my people dead. When we have reinforcements maybe we will be able to attack them. For now we have to get the man power to keep them at bay. Tell the people to keep their bows at hand, and increase the patols to watch them. I will not lower my people to feed the beasts too keep them at bay. Also at the time being I do not see the need to ask the king for help. We must keep a vigil watch, and hope for alittle luck. I do wish how ever for all the men that did fight and more importantly the ones who died to be comended, for their bravery.

Now to the state. I must have made an error in the matters of state last season, and must of though that you already took the kings taxes out. But know that will not happen again. Now this season, I want the tax paid as i commanded a few seasons ago, and TWO areas of land cleared, one in the Parcel, and the other in Cordell, both are to be used as farms next year. That should be about 86 gold, leaving me with 8. Which is enough for 4 Men-at-Arms. Not enough to replaced the ones lost, but a good start for the replacments. With that, I will end this letter to you. I must get back to my weapon training before the winter sets in and we are all locked indoors. My the lady be with us all in thies times.

Baron Gaston

Winter of Year 3

Dear Sire...

Winter has set in, and another new Season begins. Though the cold is deep and biting, I have endeavoured to gather all the news of the Estate, and bring before you now my Scribe's Report.

Thankfully, River Trolls do not like the cold, and have become less active over these Winter months. Twice they did attempt to leave their dwellings in search of food outside their small forest, but we were prepared.

As you ordered, men were stationed at all times watching the forest. They were armed with flaming arrows, and forced the horrid creatures back into the darkness from which they came. I fear that they will grow too hungry in coming weeks to be pushed back from fear of fire any longer, but for now it seems the Estate is holding them back.

With four new warriors in its ranks, the garrison is preparing to deal with the Trolls when they attack next. After the bodies of the fallen were honourably buried, and the survivors rewarded for their valourous fighting, training began anew.

The Men-At-Arms appear to hold a deep hatred for these beasts. I must admit I do too. As men of noblest Bretonnia, we, like you, take great displeasure in the idea of such creatures ending the lives of our courageous brothers. We shall have revenge...

Ahem, enough talk of blood and dark deeds. Now I report to you some good news. The two Fields you ordered cleared are now ready for sowing next Spring, and the next Harvest looks promising indeed.

Now, to the matters of state this chilling Winter:

The Lord's Tax this Season is a small 4 Revenue. As you commanded, it has already been paid.

Although it does help keep us safe from the River Trolls, the cold weather also forbids us to perform any real construction this Season. However, we could still build some smaller Upgrades if it is your wish.

Do you wish to train any more Men-At-Arms this Season, milord? A stronger garrison may be needed to hold off the River Trolls in the future.

Lastly, do you wish to change the Tax Rate or Rationing?

I await your response with great interest.

Your scribe,

Scribe Dennis.

Lord's Response

Greetings Dennis,

I thank the Lady that no more attacks have befouled our land. I am no coward but I do know we are ill equiped to handle the situation at the time being. I may have to resort to asking the King for aid. But I do not know yet.

With the winter in place I have no real orders to give. I have very big plans for the spring. The only thing I want done now is for four more men-at-arms be trained. We need all the help we can get. I belive thats all I have for this season. I wish you well and warmth till the spring

Baron Gaston

Spring of Year 4

Dear Sire...

Although the shadow of the River Trolls still clouds the landscape, I must admit I find great joy in the dawning of the new year. The long cold of Winter has passed, and Spring has begun!

Over the past months, the River Troll activity has been growing at an alarming rate. It seems that a month does not pass without numerous attempts by the Trolls to venture out into our territory. As before, they have always been driven back without harm to our own forces.

Unfortunately, the last two attempts by the River Trolls were quite dangerous. Driven by hunger, they ignored the many arrows of your loyal warriors and it was only by making a lot of noise and firing volley after volley of flaming arrows that the unholy beasts were driven back once again. I fear that the River Trolls are becoming too hungry to be driven back any longer, and that in the coming weeks a final, decisive attack shall occur.

Fortunately, with four new Men-At-Arms in our ranks, we are better prepared for such an occurrence. Your loyal guards are ready to fight for the safety of the lands, and many members of the peasantry are also arming themselves with crude bows. They hope it shall not come to it, but they are ready to fight to protect their own homes and your lands.

I believe that now may be a good time to send for aid from the King. Perhaps a small cadre of Men-At-Arms would help us put the foul Trolls to death? Although I shall leave your wise mind to ponder to decide, I believe that, in times such as these, it is never dishonourable to ask for aid when one is in need.

There is some good news in these troubling times, milord. The population is growing at a steady rate, despite the troubles of the land. It seems that even with a small colony of Trolls in the realm, you are still a popular and well-loved Lord, milord Baron Gaston.

That is all the news for this Season, milord. I now move on to the matters of state:

The Lord's Tax for this Season is a modest 5 Revenue. Should we pay it?

Being Spring, it is the time to sow the crops for next Season's Harvest. How many of our splendid Fields should be sown with this year's crops milord? At what quality?

With the Winter weather thankfully gone, we are now unimpeded in our ability to clear land or construct buildings. Do you wish to build any land, perform any development or build any smaller Upgrades, milord?

As you mentioned in your past message, it may be a wise idea to ask for Aid from the King. If so, how many Men-At-Arms do you wish to request. We could also ask for Revenue to train new Men-At-Arms, or Food Stocks to aid us.

If you would rather not trouble the King at this time (although at the moment we are facing a powerful foe) we could always train new Men-At-Arms from the Estate's population. Do you wish to do this?

If you have any other actions you wish to have done, please give the order and I shall see to it that your commands are put into action.

Your loyal scribe.

Scribe Dennis.
